Does anyone know the real answer to this:

If I take the full BSAC Seamanship training, will I be covered legally to drive a powerboat in Thailand, with diving customers on-board?

Has anyone had any experience of this, dealing with the Thai authorities?  Is there any additional paperwork which needs to be done?

Although I'm sure that the training is comprehensive, I'm concerned that the Thais won't recognize a qualification that they're unfamiliar with.

The BSAC Boat handling Course is an internationally recognised, as is the BSAC Coxswain Assessment. On successfully completing the BSAC Diver Coxswain Assessment, results in the issuing of two International licenses. These licenses qualify the holder to operate small powerboats; less than 10metres in length, and in conjunction with divers and recreational diving operations. With regards to whether any local Thai license is required to operate these types of boats? This issue is currently being investigated by BSAC Thailand with the appropriate Thai authorities.

As far as I know, it's still the law there has to be a Thai Skipper on board. It has been approved but not passed in law that a "farrang" skipper may now be at the helm. This was done so that those big charter companies could operate without having to pay a bribe/fine every time their boats set sail. This is Thailand (TIT), so see how you get on at a local level.
