BSAC Explorer Mixed Gas Diver
The Explorer Mixed Gas Diver is an extension to the Sports Mixed Gas Diver and allows the divers to increase their depth experience to 60m breathing Tri Mix mixtures up to 18% oxygen and 35% helium. The entry level is a BSAC Sports Diver or equivalent as well as Sports Mixed Gas Diver.
Course Outline
The Explorer Mixed Gas diver consists of the following elements:
- Dry Practical (optional)
- Confined water Session (optional)
- Dive Planning
- Open Water Dive
We also highly recommend the students complete the BSAC Oxygen administrator , First Aid for Divers and Practical Rescue Management courses before doing the Explorer Mixed Gas Diver course (this is a recommendation not a course requirement)
Dry Practical (optional)
The optional dry practical is for divers who haven’t conducted any tech dives in the last 4 weeks and is designed to refresh the students’ knowledge on the equipment and setup.
Confined Water Session (optional)
Again this session is designed for divers who haven’t dived in the last 4 weeks and gives the students time to re familiarize themselves with the equipment and skills they will be using. The instructors will use this time to assess your skills underwater and if necessary schedule extra dives if further fine tuning is required.
Dive Planning
During the dive planning section the students will be expected to thoroughly plan a dive to between 55 and 60m for no less than 60 min total underwater. The plans should include accurate dive profiles with necessary gas switches, gas consumption calculations and backup plans for loss of gas, too deep etc. As well as the dive plans and backup plans the divers will also be required to create an emergency evacuation plan. This should cover what procedures the Dive Manager should follow in case of an emergency.
Open Water Dive
Once the dive plans are complete and all equipment is setup and ready to go it is time to execute your dive plan. The students will setup, brief and lead the dives and the instructor will be there purely to assess your abilities to manage your depth, run time and gas switches. Once the dive is completed you will be awarded the BSAC Explorer Mixed Gas Diver certification and are ready to advance onto the BSAC Advanced Mixed Gas Diver course
