Snorkelling is great fun, easy to learn and an ideal way to build up confidence in the water as well as keeping fit. It is accessible to anyone - young or old - and is an enjoyable way to get the whole family involved in the sport. For youngsters and adults alike, snorkelling is a great way of introducing you to wonders of the underwater world and can be your first step towards learning to scuba dive.
BSAC’s snorkelling courses are open to children from the age of six – starting with our ‘’Dolphin Snorkel Diver’’ and progressing to the higher Snorkel grades.
You can complete a BSAC snorkel course while on holiday, where you can explore some of the best coral reefs, that the world has to offer. Once you learn to snorkel then the fun doesn’t stop there… BSAC has hundreds of snorkeling clubs, where like-minded people meet both on a social level and to organize snorkelling trips.
Why do I need to be trained as a snorkeller?
Snorkelling is accessible to everyone. You can purchase snorkelling equipment at any beach or dive shop with no prior training or qualification. However, it should be remembered that snorkeling dose carry some risks, depending on the snorkelling activities that are being carried out. Whereas surface snorkel is relatively safe and doesn’t normally require much training; apart from the correct fining technique, snorkel and mask clearing etc. However, once we submerge underwater for example; by snorkelling down to look at the corals and fish, then there is some physiological effect on our body. Unless we are aware of these effects and know how to avoid such problems, then we can reduce the risks of this problem occurring by being a trained snorkeler.
Apart from the above, being confident and competent and safe snorkeler will make your snorkelling more enjoyable. These are just a few of the various reasons why proper training is recommended.
The BSAC Snorkeling program offers the follow courses,
