BSAC Scubawise.
This course is designed for certified divers who haven’t dived for several months and who wish to refresh and practice their diving skills. The course is split into a number of modules which includes, completing an evaluation questionnaire; in which you will highlight your abilities in performing any of the particular skills; listed. This evaluation will highlight to the instructor the skills that need more improvement and practice than others, a short theory presentation and a practical review of diving skills, in which will cover both “core” diving skills and “rescue” skills.
This course is open to all divers who are at any level.
The duration of this program is 2 hours. The Dive Centre may offer an “optional” open water dive.
Theory Lessons
The course starts with a look at your personal fitness to dive. The lesson looks at how your fitness deteriorates after a break from diving. Acclimation to Nitrogen Narcosis, the lost of skills, equipment familiarization and its use are also covered. These elements are lost over longer periods of time away from diving. We also look at other factor related to absence of diving. Poor dive planning, bad dive profiling, poor equipment maintenance etc.
Evaluation Questionnaire
In this section, you will complete a questionnaire on your previous and current performance on conducting core dive skills and rescue skills; if appropriate at your level of your qualification. You will mark yourself on each skill and access yourself at what level of competency you think that you can complete the skill? The different level rangers from easy, difficult or cannot do! From this evaluation, the instructor will be able to assess which skills you will need to practice more than other to bring you up to where all skills can be completed with a degree of competency.
Practical Skills (Pool/shelter water lessons)
This lesson is split into two sections i.e. Core skills; such as, buoyancy control, mask clearing and removal and regulator clearing, buddy checks and briefings etc. The “rescue skills” section, covers, Rescue lifts, surface rescue techniques and resuscitation and emergency out of air procedures.
Once you have completed the program. Many dive centre’s offer an open water dive. This dive will allow you to get familiar with your diving and skills in a more realistic condition.
