BSAC Ocean Diver
As the first step in BSAC’s system of diver education, the Ocean Diver course the ideal choice for anyone seeking quality dive training that develops you into a safe and competent diver.
The course structure is perfect for learning to dive in a resort environment such as Thailand.
BSAC Ocean Diver training is usually scheduled over 4-5 days, giving you the information, skills and experience to dive to a maximum depth of 20 metres.
The course includes four training elements – theory, sheltered water lessons, open water lessons and a basic swimming assessment. Provided you have basic confidence in water and are able to swim, you should have no difficulties during the Ocean Diver course.
Theory Lessons
In the theory lessons we’ll cover everything you need to know to be a safe diver, such as diving equipment and signals, the body and effects of diving, dive planning and what potential problems we might encounter and how to avoid them.

Sheltered Water Lessons
Next we move into sheltered water training, in a swimming pool or shallow bay.
We focus on basic skills such as how to assemble the scuba unit, buoyancy control, mask clearing, and using an air source as both a donor and receiver.
We also introduce safety skills such as how to execute a controlled buoyant lift to assist an unconscious victim, and how to tow the casualty towards help.
The shallow session gets you comfortable using scuba gear in controlled conditions, before we proceed to the open ocean.
Open Water Lessons

Finally the best bit – the open water lessons where you’ll get to enjoy five dives on Thailand’s amazing tropical coral reefs. You’ll concentrate on further improving your buoyancy control during ascents and descents, whilst swimming and whilst stationary.
You’ll re-practice the skills learned during the sheltered water lessons and develop awareness of underwater navigation. We’ll repeat the rescue skills learned earlier, and by dive 5 will conclude with you planning and leading a dive [based on what you’ve learned and experienced throughout the Ocean Diver course].
Combined, you’ll log at least 120 minutes underwater, and will experience different kinds of dive such as shore diving, small and big boat dives, drift dives and more.
